In the middle of December, Krasnoyarsk were held the FIS Freestyle Skiing Russian Cup Stage at Sopka Cluster on December 17-28. The athletes competed in the following disciplines: halfpipe, mogul, dual mogul, aerial acrobatics, slopestyle, big air. The number of eligible athletes for the competitions exceeds 200.
As Ivan Znamensky, FIS Technical Committee Chair, noted, the freezing weather that made some adjustments to the plans was not an obstacle to holding the competitions at a high standard. "It is the merit of the best Russian experts who came to Krasnoyarsk to hold the FIS Freestyle Skiing Russian Cup Stages. I am sure that all the drawbacks that became apparent at the test competitions will be eliminated by the Winter Universiade 2019. That is what we hold these sports events for. The city of Krasnoyarsk has changed for the best prior to the Universiade. I think the new airport is the most noteworthy of all the improvements".
The FIS Freestyle Skiing Russian Cup Stages will continue at the Sopka Cluster on 16-18 January 2019. The athletes will compete for medals in ski cross.
The Sopka Cluster will host the event. The venue is constructed for the Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019 and makes a part of the Winter Sports Academy. The Cluster includes the Sopka Multifunctional Sports Complex, Snezhny Sports and Training Block, Halfpipe Complex, Set of Alpine Skiing Courses, Freestyle Administrative and Training Block, Set of Freestyle Skiing Courses, and the helipad for medical transport. What makes the Sopka Cluster unique is that all the Freestyle and Snowboard courses are located in the same place, and all the infrastructure venues, required for the athletes and coaches including trampoline and training halls, are nearby.
