Let us remember, that the Multi-purpose Complex “Biathlon Academy” is one of the key sports venues of the Student Games, on the basis of which biathlon competitions will be held.
Within the frames of the visit, Vadim Melikhov inspected the construction site, where work is underway to build new sports facilities and outdoor sports grounds for the “Biathlon Academy”. So, after the reconstruction of the complex there will be a shooting range with thirty-five target installations, ski runs with a total length of 12.5 kilometers, a spectator stand designed for 1500 seats for supporters, and many other facilities. In addition, it is planned to place a specially-equipped systems for artificial snowing and lighting of ski runs, to install a video screen, as well as to improve the territory of the complex.
The Vice President assessed the scope of the work done and shared his recommendations for the successful holding of the highest-level sports competitions.
“Krasnoyarsk region has contributed greatly to the development of Russian and international biathlon. It is in the region where the best conditions for training professional athletes and Olympic champions are provided, - Vadim Melikhov emphasized. — Our priority task is to create the most comfortable conditions for spectators, athletes, young people, media representatives - all participants of the grandiose sports festival. For this purpose, much work is being done to reconstruct the venue, after which the complex will meet the requirements for year-round training and competitions of any scale, from local to international. But most importantly, we need to create conditions on the territory of the complex for the successful development of sport, to attract children and youth to the sports movement. "
During the meeting the concept of test competitions was also discussed, namely the Russian Biathlon Championships in the course of preparation for the Winter Universiade 2019. Mr. Melikhov positively assessed the initiative and gave his proposals on the branding and zoning of sports grounds, the organization of logistics, as well as working with the spectators.
“The Krasnoyarsk region has strong biathlon traditions. For a number of years, our athletes have been demonstrating excellent sport results. The main forge of talents - "Biathlon Academy" - celebrated its decade last year. The uniqueness of this sports venue lies in the fact that everything necessary for athletes - from accommodation and meals to the shooting range and ski runs - is located in a single complex within the city. Now, the Biathlon Academy is undergoing a reconstruction before the Winter Universiade 2019, and the Russian Biathlon Union is also actively helping us in this. Representatives come to us, make adjustments, give guidance, help in the homologation of the tracks, so that our Academy becomes even more comfortable both from the point of view of holding large competitions and from the point of view of the development of mass physical culture. It is our common task to combine two such important blocks,” - the Minister of Sport of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Sergey Alekseev summed up.
On the basis of the Biathlon Academy athletes from various sports schools of the Olympic reserve and members of the Krasnoyarsk national teams in various sports are trained.
As of today, biathlon is a basic sport for the Krasnoyarsk region and Krasnoyarsk biathlonists have repeatedly won awards at world-class sports competitions: two-time Olympic champions in biathlon Eugene Ustyugov and Olga Medvedtseva, as well as Olympic prize-winners Pavel Rostovtsev and Olga Romasko and several other athletes.
