Rene Fasel, IIHF President: "In my view, it was one of the best Winter Universiades I have ever attended"
In a thank you letter that was sent to the Organising Committee of the Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019, Rene Fasel, President of the International Ice Hockey Federation, expressed his gratitude for the high level of the Ice Hockey competitions at the Winter Universiade 2019.
"I admired remarkable teamwork of the Organizing Committee and Crystal Ice Arena staff," – Rene Fasel says. "The sports venue complies with the highest international standards, which for sure exceeded all expectations. I suppose the hosted competitions proved that Crystal Ice Arena is suitable for holding any international Ice Hockey championship and I hope that this legacy will help to keep the university sports atmosphere in Krasnoyarsk. By well-coordinated work and commitment of each person to the preparation of this event, we managed to hold 32 thrilling games in 11 days. In my view, it was one of the best Winter Universiades I have ever attended. It was a great pleasure to be a part of such a memorable event, enjoy the local hospitality and explore the warmth of Siberia."
Let us remind, the Russian team that beat Slovakia in the final match became the gold medallist of the Men's Ice Hockey tournament of the Winter Universiade 2019. The third place was taken by the Canada team. As for the women, the Russian Ice Hockey players won the gold, the Canadian team took the silver awards, while the Japanese team won the match for the bronze.
The Winter Universiade 2019 is the first Winter Universiade in the history of Russia that was held from March 2 to 12 in Krasnoyarsk. Winter Universiade 2019 is now a record holder among the Games for the number of participating countries. For 11 days, athletes from 58 countries competed for awards in 11 sports.
